Therapeutic Massage (Deep Tissue)

Therapeutic or Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper fibres of the muscle and fascia.  It uses many of the same techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will be more intense.  It is also a more focused massage that works to release chronic muscle tension and adhesions (knots).

Relaxation Massage (Swedish)

A slow and gentle massage using basic massage techniques producing health benefits including: calming the nervous system, promoting a sense of well-being, improving blood circulation and stimulating the body's lymphatic system.

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)

Is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a system in the body called the cranial sacral system.  This system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  Practitioners work to free restrictions allowing the body to rebalance itself so the brain can function properly.  CST is about finding areas in the body that lack mobility and the connective tissue or fascia that tighten in response. This tightening is usually due to stress or abnormal pressure being put on the body.

CST helps to:

  • Restore normal cranial mobility

  • Release abnormal fascial restrictions in the head and body

  • Ease restrictions on the nerves

  • Optimize cerebrospinal fluid movement through the Central Nervous System      (CNS)

  • Restore misaligned bones assisting in shoulder, back, hip and knee problems

CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease.  It does this by complementing the body’s natural healing processes.

CST is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction including:

  • Migraine and other types of headaches

  • Muscle and joint pain or injury

  • Chronic neck and back pain

  • Colic, feeding difficulties, and birth traumas

  • Recurrent ear infections, tinnitus, hearing loss and vertigo

  • Autism and developmental delays

  • Central Nervous System disorders

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

  • Learning disabilities (ADD and ADHD)

  • Gross and fine motor problems

  • Stress disorders, chronic fatigue, and insomnia

  • Emotional difficulties

  • Orthopedic problems

  • Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Structural Myofascial Therapy (SMFT)

Myofascia is the strong dense tissue that surrounds and covers all your muscles and bones.  Under a microscope it resembles a spider web or fish net, which covers the entire body making a complete body suit running from the top of your head down to the bottom of your toes.

In its normal healthy state the myofascia is relaxed and soft.  It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction.  When you experience physical trauma or inflammation the myofascia loses its pliability.  It can become tight, restricted and a source of tension throughout the rest of the body causing a number of problems such as:

  • Muscle pain and spasms

  • Chronic back and neck pain

  • Recurring injuries

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Sensations such as numbness, and pins and needles

  • Poor posture and reduced flexibility

Things that can cause this once flexible tissue to become too tight are:

  • Traumas, such as a fall or car accident

  • Poor posture

  • Lack of stretching such as prolonged sitting or standing

  • Emotional and psychological stress

  • Repetitive motions, such as factory work or keyboarding

Because the myofascia is a complete body suit, tension in one area can cause and affect pain in another area.  The techniques used help to re-organize and lengthen the tight tissue allowing for better movement and tissue health throughout the whole body.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress; and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.  It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect.  It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve unwanted side effects and promote recovery.
